Yesterday we got our first egg on the farm. It was a nice size, probably a medium pullet egg. We cracked it open to find a deep orange double yolk. I am hoping that they bring good luck, and rain, in the future. We are very excited about our egg prospects. We will have 18 layers this winter and have ordered plenty more to begin laying next spring.
Today we processed another set of white broilers. They finished between 4 and 5 pounds in 7 weeks. I was very pleased to see how well they grew. It is nice to process and have no barn or pen to clean after the chickens are gone We just pull it back to the starter coop to reload the next batch. With our chicken tractors, they fertilize the fields for us. We just move them daily. It is a win-win situation. Our piglets are doing very well. They and mommy have ventured out of the shelter and begun exploring. They are a treat to watch.
